Campers

“How do you not get sick of trip, isn’t it the same thing everyday”?

This is the most common question I get from friends, family, campers and frankly anyone who knows what my summer job is. I always have the same answer to this, “well of course not”! Whenever I think about this question, my mind always gets drawn to the sunsets. To me, the sunset represents the accomplishments, challenges, and events of the day. With each day brings new adventures, new challenges, and new memories. And with each night brings a new sunset.

One of my favorite parts of being a tripper is watching the campers watch the sunset as a cabin family while reflecting and talking about their day: who fell in the mud that day? Who carried a canoe or barrel or pack for the first time? Who tried a new food? While they sit as a cabin group and reminisce about the day or work on their trip song, I like to think about what tomorrow will bring. What will be accomplished together, as a team? How will the cabin grow together as one family? What hilarious things will happen? This is why to me, tripping in the most beautiful place in the world is the most unique, fascinating, and rewarding job I could have.
