Walden Units
Camp is made up of five self-contained villages. Each village is designed to meet the needs of the age group within it.
Cabin placements are based upon the age and completed grade level of each camper. There are about 10-14 campers per cabin (16 in our CIT Village); a group large enough to offer a sense of community, yet not so big that a camper feels lost. Every cabin is supervised by several well trained staff.
Our villages have all the essentials to make Walden home including a well-trained staff of counsellors and specialists living in every cabin.
Colours: Campers have completed grades 1,2 and 3.
Comics: Campers have completed grades 4 and 5.
Zodiacs: Campers have completed grades 6 and 7.
Seekers: Campers have completed grades 8 and 9.
C.I.T.s: Campers have completed grade 10.
ABOUT OUR CIT PROGRAM:
The CIT Unit, home base for our consellor-in-training program, differs from the other units in a few ways. Firstly, it is the one unit where campers must attend for the full 7 weeks of camp. Also known as our "camper-in-transition" program, it aims to provide a full camper experience while preparing CITs for the responsibility of becoming a staff member the following summer. CITs take part in various leadership training sessions, plan activities around camp, and serve as role models for younger campers. They participate in five week-long practical placements in order to gain the experience working directly with campers in a supervisory capacity. Each CIT will experience working in a unit with a cabin, and in various specialties in order to ensure that they have a broad foundation as they transition into becoming a staff member.
