Meet the Owners
Dear Friends,
Since 1970, Camp Walden has helped children discover the joys of summer. It is with honour and pleasure that we have the opportunity to carry on this tradition as Directors and Owners of such a wonderful camp year after year. We are committed to providing the very best in creative camp programming and hiring a talented, committed, and highly skilled staff to facilitate camp activities. As experienced campers and staff, we bring a passion for our work (and play!) owning and operating beautiful Walden.
As teachers, we both understand and appreciate the importance of nurturing independence, developing social skills, and building lasting relationships. We strive to create an environment where all of this happens while enjoying the outdoors and having fun! We take great pride in the fact that our campers stay with us for many years to grow and to become our dedicated staff.
We can’t think of a better place to grow, play, and make lasting memories.
We hope you'll join us!
Sol & Jen
About Sol & Jen
Sol has over twenty-five years of camping experience at Ontario camps as a Camper, Counsellor, Area Head, and Director, as well as a Bachelor of Science and training and certification as a teacher. Sol is a past recipient of the prestigious Ron Johnstone Memorial Award given annually by the Ontario Camping Association recognizing outstanding contributions in the field of camping. Sol currently sits on the Executive Board of the Society of Camp Directors. Throughout Sol’s 10 years of working with partners, Howie and Sari, at Camp Robin Hood he gained invaluable experience and a strong philosophy of camping that is committed to the growth and development of children and young adults. His involvement in Camp Robin Hood not only brought him to Camp Walden, but also to his wife Jen, partner in life and all things camp.
Jen has over ten years of overnight camping experience as a camper and staff member as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and training and certification as a teacher. Jen’s background in business and experience working with children has proven to be a perfect balance of skills to support Sol in all aspects of camp.
Sol and Jen work full time managing all aspects of camp. During the off-season, Sol devotes hundreds of hours to interviewing potential camp staff and traveling with Jen to camp fairs throughout Canada and the United States. Sol assembles a Leadership Team of which Jen is a part that meets throughout the off-season to plan for and enhance camp programs. Sol and Jen do regular “home visits” to meet with inquiring campers and their families in their own homes during the winter and live at Walden through the months of June – September.
Dear Friends,
An overnight camp experience at Camp Walden is second to none. We are so thrilled to be associated with the wonderful community of campers, parents and staff.
We are committed, as co-owners of Camp Walden, to support our dear friends Sol & Jen as they lead a capable group of staff who provide a unique and memorable summer experience for our campers. We remain very close to everything that happens at Camp Walden, and we truly enjoy the magical moments we get to experience with the campers.
We hope you'll join us!

Howie has over 35 years of experience in the field of camping and spent ten years as a high school Physical and Health Education teacher with the York Region District School Board while serving as Program Director of Camp Robin Hood. Howie is currently the Vice-President of the Ontario Camping Association.
In addition to be annual speakers at several International Camping Conferences, Howie and Sari play an important role in all aspects of Camp Walden’s operations in the off-season. During the summer, Howie and Sari are Camp Robin Hood’s Directors and will be the link between Toronto and Walden for our campers, as well as resource problem-solvers and supports during their weekend visits to camp.
