THE WALDEN "PLUS" - CAMPER TRACKING

WHAT IT IS - HOW IT WORKS
A number of years ago we came up with a concept called CAMPER TRACKING. Walden has been using it effectively since the 1987 season. Once a week every camper at Walden is evaluated.

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS
Each week over the course of the summer, the Unit Heads sit down with the counsellors of each a cabin in their section on an individual basis. A discussion is facilitated by a member of our Leadership Team.

Every camper in the cabin is then discussed about and evaluated individually. We look at everything that has gone on over the previous week - accomplishments, strengths, weaknesses, behavior, relationships with both other campers and staff, respect for others, skill levels, participation and general enthusiasm, as well as a number of other factors.

All pertinent information is entered on special forms that we keep in the office.

Over a period of time we build up a picture of every camper.

What this technique has done is provide valuable insight into every Walden camper. In addition, the counsellors know that they are going to be asked about each of their campers, so it keeps them on their toes.

All camper records are kept in our office, so that if you call and would like to know how your son or daughter is doing, we can give you an up-to-date report fairly quickly.

DOES IT WORK?
It has been invaluable in spotting problems before they get out of control. It has helped in the training of staff to spot problems.

It may not be perfect, but we have never seen a better system of camper evaluation anywhere.

As a parent, you can be assured that we are doing our utmost to keep on top of every situation that arises.
That's the "WALDEN PLUS".
